    New Skill Saturday: Elbow Carts

On Saturdays, I practice skills instead of focusing on strength or calorie burn. My goal is to attempt one new skill each week. This week, I was inspired by the show Bring It on Lifetime Network. In the last episode I watched on YouTube, the dancers had to perform an elbow cartwheel. I thought it looked cool and doable for me, so here’s my first attempt. I’ll post an update when I can land on my feet. How about you? What new skill would you like to try? Quick Calisthenic Move

I saw Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson do this once — thought I’d give it a try. For months I couldn’t do more than two reps in a row. I realized my technique was the problem. To be successful with this move, reach up and over from start to finish (arms up in the lying position and forward from seated to standing). This exercise helps condition good landing form for aerial movements. This Month’s Like – Gymnastic Bodies Course

My initial interest in the Gymnastic Bodies’ courses began in 2015. By then, I had been lifting since I was 17 and focusing on bodybuilding. Since then, I’ve learned that while hypertrophy (muscle growth) is great, it has to be coupled with flexibility and functional movements to keep the body progressing and to prevent injury. In 2015, my nagging shoulder tightness and limited flexibility urged me to expand my exercise repertoire and try something new. I purchased the Gymnastic Bodies’ Handstand One course in 2016 and soon dropped bodybuilding for calisthenic strength and functional exercise. After ordering Handstand One, I incorporated gymnastic strength moves in my weekly training routine, three days…

    Handstand Progress

Aug. 12th, 2017 The few of you who follow this channel and visit my website, brokesinglemomfitness.com, know that I recently embarked on a calisthenic strength journey. Prior to last year, I did 8 years of aesthetic training. Now, I’m working on calisthenic strength, specifically gymnastic strength. My handstands aren’t perfect, but I’m learning. It’s never too late to change sports. Handstand Progress

I can finally get up into a handstand on almost every attempt. Mind you, I can’t hold for long, but it’s progress! Again, I’m learning completely on my own. My teachers are a book, Overcoming Gravity, and YouTube.
